OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Pro with $200 monthly subscription plan
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pro, a premium $200 per month subscription that unlocks the full potential of its most advanced models. With AI capabilities evolving rapidly, this new offering provides scalable access to cutting-edge tools, including the o1 model, o1-mini, GPT-4o, Advanced Voice, and the powerful o1 pro mode. Designed to address increasingly complex and critical problems, ChatGPT Pro brings advanced thinking power for users who rely on AI for high-level tasks.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Pro is tailored for professionals like researchers and engineers who engage with research-grade intelligence daily, helping them "accelerate their productivity and be at the cutting edge of advancements in AI." The subscription plan enables users to tap into AI's most robust computational features, which are expected to expand with even more powerful features in the future.
Enhanced Problem-Solving Power with o1 Pro Mode
One of the standout features of ChatGPT Pro is o1 pro mode, a version of the o1 model that uses additional computing power to deliver more accurate and comprehensive answers. The model is designed to think "longer for the most reliable responses" and has shown improved performance in areas like data science, programming, and case law analysis. Independent evaluations from expert testers revealed that o1 pro mode outperforms both o1 and o1-preview models on challenging machine learning benchmarks in fields such as math, science, and coding.
To further enhance the reliability of its answers, OpenAI uses a "4/4 reliability" standard in which a model must solve a question correctly across four attempts, not just one. This ensures that responses meet a high bar for consistency. Pro users can access o1 pro mode via the model picker, though the advanced processing may result in longer response times. Users will be notified when switching away from the conversation during this process, and a progress bar will indicate the ongoing computation.
ChatGPT Pro Grants: Supporting Medical Research
In an effort to foster positive change in areas benefiting humanity, OpenAI is awarding ten ChatGPT Pro grants to medical researchers at leading institutions across the U.S. These grants are aimed at accelerating breakthroughs in crucial fields such as rare diseases, aging, and cancer immunotherapy. Among the first recipients are:
Catherine Brownstein, MPH, PhD, Assistant Professor at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, who specializes in discovering new genes for rare and orphan diseases.
Justin Reese, PhD, Computer Research Scientist at Berkeley Lab, who uses complex biomedical data to uncover new knowledge related to human disease.
Rhoda Au, PhD, Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, who focuses on aging and dementia research.
Derya Unutmaz, MD, Professor at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, known for his work on aging and cancer immunotherapy.
OpenAI plans to expand this initiative in the future, extending ChatGPT Pro grants to other regions and research areas.
With ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI is not only advancing the capabilities of AI models but also contributing to global progress in healthcare and research, helping professionals tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today.
