Paid-content talks with YouTube abandoned by SKY TV
BSkyB has ended talks with Google to upload full-length shows on YouTube, given that these would be accessible only at a premium as confirmed by Google.
Sky shall continue to offer free short videos on YouTube, but full length TV programmes online will be accessible only at a price from its Sky Platform, free only for Sky TV subscribers. Subscribers can either subscribe to both models or pay for just online content.
This is a move to enhance revenue for more distinctive content and follows BSKYB major shareholder Rupert Murdoch's terming of Google and other aggregators as content kleptomaniacs after administering paywalls around his online news sites, which include The Time and The Sun, effective 2010.
