President Draupadi Murmu: "PTI's role crucial in our country"

Registered in the year that India gained her Independence, Press Trust of India started functioning in the year 1949. As India’s premier news agency completes 77 years, PTI today commands 90 per cent of the news agency market share in India.

With a reach that covers every corner of India, PTI employs more than 600 journalists and 800 stringers to cover almost every city and small town in India. Collectively, PTI journalists put out more than 1,000 text stories, about 200 live videos, about 130 raw video stories, more than 30 voiced video stories and 250 photographs, including graphics every day to feed the appetite of the diverse subscribers, who include the mainstream media, the specialized presses, research groups, companies, and government and non-governmental organizations.

Wishing the news agency on its 77th anniversary, President Draupadi Murmu said, “I congratulate all the members of the organisation on achieving this milestone. As PTI was established barely a few days after India won Independence, this news agency has been in the enviable position of chronicling the journey of the nation, right since its inception.”

She further said, “PTI, as the premier news agency established by the efforts of newspapers, has been one of the most indispensable parts of India’s journalism. It has upheld the highest standards of news writing and reporting. As a result, it enjoys high credibility, and remains an inspiring model. The role of PTI in our country has been crucial, as timely dissemination of news in an impartial manner is crucial to the health of democracy.”
