Print ad space per publication in H1 2024 grew 5% compared to H1 2023

Print ad space per publication in H1 of 2024 grew by 5% compared to H1 of 2023 and 11% compared to the same period of 2022. Print ad space in the first half of 2023 also grew by 5%, as per TAM Media’s report on print advertising in January-June 2024.

Education sector topped with 19% share of the ad space, followed by Services sector with 15% share during Jan-Jun’24. The Top 3 sectors maintained their positions from Jan-Jun’24, consistent with their rankings in the same period in 2023. The Top 5 sectors together accounted more than 60% share of the ad space in the Print medium. Telecom Products was the only new entrant among the Top 10 sectors in Print medium.

Advertising for Cars category topped during H1’24. The Top 10 categories together accounted for 45% share of the ad space in Print. Four out of the Top 10 categories moved up in ranking during Jan-Jun’24. Multiple Courses, Properties/ Real Estates, Retail Outlets-Electronics/ Durables, and Schools categories maintained their respective ranks in H1’24 compared to H1’23. Three out of the Top 10 categories were from the Education sector and two were from the Auto and Services sectors each.

The Top 10 Advertisers contributed 14% share of the ad space in Print. Similar to Jan-Jun’23, Maruti Suzuki India led the list of advertisers in Print, with SBS Biotech following in the same period of 2024. Eight of the Top 10 advertisers from Jan-Jun’23 were still in the Top 10 of Jan-Jun’24. Ranking of Samsung India Electronics and Kent Ro System shot up to the Top 10 list of Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jan’23. Top 10 Advertisers of Jan-Jun’24 saw two new entrants.

The Top 10 Brands contributed 6% share of the Print ad space. Honda Shine 100 was the top brand in Print during Jan-Jun’24, followed by Aakash Medical/ IIT-JEE/ Foundation. Among the Top 10, three brands were from the Auto Sector and four were from the Education sector. During Jan-Jun’24, there were total 105K+ brands that advertised in Print.

Over 280+ Categories registered positive growth. Cars saw the highest ad space growth, that is, 25% increase during Jan-Jun'24 over Jan-Jun'23. In terms of growth %, Cellular Phones-Smart Phones category witnessed the highest growth % among the Top 10, that is, 2.9x in the Jan-Jun’24.

The Top 5 Publications – Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil – remains same in both Jan-Jun’23 and Jan-Jun’24. Hindi and English language publications together contributed more than 60% share of the print ad volume during both Jan-Jun’23-24.

Sales Promotion advertising covered 28% share of the ad space in Print during Jan-Jun’24. Among Sales Promotions, Discount Promotion was on top with 44% share of the ad space, followed by Multiple Promotion. The Top 2 promotions solely covered 85% share of the ad space in Print during year Jan-Jun’24.
