Professor Ashokkumar named Director of Melbourne Global Centre
The University of Melbourne has announced the appointment of Professor Muthupandian Ashokkumar as the Director of the Melbourne Global Centre in Delhi.
With an impressive career in international education and leadership, Professor Ashokkumar is set to spearhead the university's global engagements, fostering stronger ties between India and Australia.
Alongside his role as Director of the Melbourne Global Centre – Delhi, Professor Ashokkumar will also serve as Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor International (South Asia and Middle East). These dual roles underscore the University of Melbourne’s commitment to advancing its international strategy, Advancing Melbourne Globally, and enhancing its education and research footprint in these key regions.
Professor Ashokkumar has held numerous leadership roles, including Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor International (India), Head of the School of Chemistry, Acting Director and CEO of the Australia India Institute, and Associate Dean International at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Science.
In his new role, he will lead the university's strategic initiatives in India, collaborating with government bodies, industry leaders, and academic institutions. His focus will include advancing Transnational Education (TNE), Transnational Research (TNR), and community engagement initiatives aimed at delivering mutual benefits, sustained growth, and cultural exchange for both nations.
Professor Duncan Maskell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, congratulated Professor Ashokkumar, saying: "His expertise and passion for transnational partnerships will shape the future of education and research between India and Australia.
