Red Cliff premiers on PIX tonight; Mehul Vora to start a free student training program in martial arts

The Hand Picked Movie of the Month, Red Cliff will premier tonight on Pix at 9 p.m. directed by John Woo the movie has won the Asian Film Award and the Huabiao Film Award and has also been nominated for the Golden Rooster Awards, and Saturn Award.  
 
Starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fengyi Zhang, the movie is set in the early third century where the land of Wu is invaded by the warlord Cao Cao and his million soldiers. The ruler of Wu, Sun Quan, calls on the rival warlord Liu Bei for help, but their two armies are outnumbered. However, the Wu strategist Zhou Yu sees that Cao Cao's army is unused to battling on the sea, which may just give them a chance if they can exploit this weakness accurately. 
 
Speaking on the importance of Martial Arts in India and drawing connections with the ancient form of martial arts used in the film Red Cliff are Akshay Kumar and his martial arts trainer Mehul Vora.  
 
Akshay Kumar says, “Taking the Karate championship to an international level is on the cards. The response we have received over the last few years has been phenomenal.” He adds, “. India has some extreme talent and I’m doing all I can to expose it.”
 
He hopes that one day Karate will be our national sport and wants make it compulsory in schools. “Karate is more than just kicking and punching, it is an art,” he adds.
 
Mehul Vora, creator of Akshay Kumar National Karate Championship, a Martial Arts Practitioner for over 27years and International Teacher for 15 years, said that he predicts martial arts growing to International levels in the years to come.
 
Vora stated, “Under the aegis of Akshay Kumar we are starting a free student training program in remote districts of Maharashtra and neighboring states.”
 
In the years to come people will see martial arts as a sport and a way of healthy living moving forward in India, with the influence of movies such as Red Cliff and the initiatives taken by martial arts teachers and enthusiasts like Vora and Kumar.
