Republic TV tops English genre in Week 13

With the COVID-19 crisis and the resultant nationwide lockdown, news consumption has seen a tremendous spike in the recent weeks. News channels are seen to lead both English and Hindi genres, ahead of GECs and Movies. 

In Week 13 (Saturday, 28th March 2020 to Friday, 3rd April 2020), Republic TV has topped the English language genre, garnering average weekly reach of 19.9 million, as per BARC data [NCCS 2+ | India]. Movies Now occupies the No. 2 position with an average weekly reach of 13.8 million, while HBO and Times Now share the third spot with average weekly reach of 10.5 million each in Week 13. Placed at No. 4, MNX’s average weekly reach is a tad below at 10.2 million. CNN News18 is at No. 5, recording an average weekly reach of 8.9 million.

Republic TV also tops the English News space, which it has been continuously leading since its launch three years ago. Republic TV has garnered a gross viewership of 2,082(000) in Week 13 [All India (U+R) : NCCS AB : Males 22+ Individuals]. Times Now is placed second with a gross viewership of 1,284(000), followed by India Today Television at 1182(000) gross viewership, CNN News18 at 653(000) gross viewership and WION at 623(000) gross viewership. 

Republic TV reported a market share of 36.85 per cent in Week 13, up from 33.34 per cent [BARC | All Time Band | NCCS AB, M 22+ | India]. Placed in the second spot, Times Now recorded a market share of 22.72 per cent, followed by India Today Television at 20.92 per cent; CNN News18 at 11.55 per cent; and NDTV 24x7 at 7.54 per cent.

The channel’s market share in Super Prime Time (Weekdays) stood at 55 per cent in Week 15, up from 40 per cent in Week 12. With this, Republic TV is way ahead of its competitors in the English News space.
