Rohit Shetty brings intriguing Ramayan twist to ‘Singham Again’

The trailer of ‘Singham Again’, the latest movie from Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, has been launched today. And it has everything that one has come to expect from the Singham films – mindboggling stunts, cars flying, guns blazing, thrilling action – BUT, with one curious addition this time. References to Ramayan in the movie trailer have left fans stumped.

Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan reprise their roles from the earlier Singham films. Joining the multi-star cast are Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Jackie Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Ravi Kishan, and more.

From what one can make out from the almost 5-minute long trailer is that Bajirao Singham’s wife (played by Kareena) is abducted by the main antagonist (Arjun Kapoor looking like a modern-day Ravan) and taken to Sri Lanka. This leads to Singham and his police colleagues, along with Tiger and Deepika (who also play cops) joining in the ultimate showdown with the villains.

Interestingly, Rohit Shetty has decided to blend this tale with the revered epic Ramayan, where Ajay is equated with Lord Ram, Kareena with Sita, Tiger with Lakshman, Raveer with Hanuman, Akshay with Jatayu, Deepika with Vibhishan, and Arjun with Ravan.

Speaking about the concept of ‘Singham Again’, Ajay revealed, “Rohit narrated the script and the concept, where Ramayan and its characters are woven in. That was a novelty and very fascinating. If you look at the kind of scale that it was shot – it took more than a year to shoot the film. You will see all the hard work in the film. Rest is up to you all now.”

Kareena, who has featured in the previous film too, quipped, “Ramayan is incomplete without Sita, similarly Rohit Shetty’s film is incomplete without Kareena!” Thanking Rohit and Ajay for always supporting her and for giving such a special role in this male-centric cop verse, she said, “I’m very honoured and overwhelmed to represent Sita maa in this film. Rohit and Ajay have always been my favourites. It has been a great experience working with everybody – Tiger, Ravi sir, my dear friend Arjun, and of course, Akki (Akshay Kumar), who I also love so much. Thank you so much for making me part of this.”

Deepika, who became a proud mother of a baby daughter on September 8, could not be part of the trailer launch. Her husband and actor Ranveer Singh shared, “Deepika is taking care of the baby, so she could not be here today. But this is my baby girl’s debut too, because Deepika was pregnant with baby Simbaa when she shot for this film. So, Lady Singham and Baby Simbaa are part of this film!”

Produced by Jio Studio along with Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn, ‘Singham Again’ is set release on Diwali, November 1, and will clash with another blockbuster franchise – ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, which stars Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, and others.
