Rs 586 cr and counting: Stree 2 becomes highest grossing Hindi film in India
‘Stree 2’, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, has been on a roll since its launch on August 15, 2024. The movie has garnered Rs 586 crore at the Indian Box Office, surpassing the lifetime collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’.
Taking to X, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#Stree2 scripts history, becomes the highest-grossing Hindi film ever...crosses lifetime business of #Jawan [#Hindi version]. Next stop: Inaugurating the Rs 600 crore Club. [Week 5] Fri 3.60 cr, Sat 5.55 cr, Sun 6.85 cr, Mon 3.17 cr, Tue 2.65 cr. Total: Rs 586 cr.”
Maddock Films, the producer of ‘Stree 2’, also took to X to share the news. The production house stated, “Woh Stree hai aur usne aakhir kar dikhaya... Hindustan ki sab se sarvashresth No. 1 Hindi film of all time!... Stree 2 is still running in cinemas successfully... theatre aao, kuch aur naye records rachate hain!”
‘Stree – Sarkate Ka Aatank’ or popularly known as ‘Stree 2’ is the sequel of the hugely successful ‘Stree’, which was released in 2018. Both of them form part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, which also includes films like ‘Bhediya’, ‘Roohi’ and ‘Munjya’.
The producers are now gearing up to make ‘Stree 3’, which was hinted in the end credits of the second part, showing Akshay Kumar in an intriguing role.
