SC refuses to stay hearings in cases against new IT Rules 2021 in various High Courts
The Supreme Court has refused to stay the hearings going on in various High Courts in cases where various organisations have challenges the new IT Rules 2021. Currently, the Bombay, Delhi, Kerala and Madras High Courts are hearing these cases.
Among the petitioners are PTI, NBA, Quint Digital Media, The Wire, The News Minute, ALT News, Live Law Media, The Leaflet, as well as the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA).
At a hearing held on July 9, 2021, the Kerala High Court in its interim order said that no coercive should be taken against NBA for not complying with the new IT Rules 2021.

Meanwhile, the Government has filed a petition before the Supreme Court, seeking transfer of all cases from several High Courts to Supreme Court. The apex court will hear the Government’s petition in this regard on July 16, 2021.
