Shashi Shekhar Vempati joins BARC Board

Shashi Shekhar Vempati, a well-known figure in Indian media, has joined the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) board as a professional director. Vempati brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as the CEO of Prasar Bharati, co-founded the DeepTech for Bharat Foundation, and held leadership positions in various organizations.

Vempati is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and boasts a diverse career path. He spent over 16 years at Infosys as a product strategist and digital innovator. In 2013, he transitioned to the media industry, becoming the CEO of news platform NitiCentral.com. He is also a strong advocate for ethical practices in the digital age, having recently spoken about the importance of data privacy in the face of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology.

Vempati's contributions extend beyond the private sector. He currently chairs the Science & Technology Communication Apex Advisory Committee and is a member of the Society of Indian Institute of Mass Communication. His expertise was recognized in 2020 when he was appointed to head a committee reviewing television rating agency guidelines following an alleged TRP scam.

BARC Chairman Shashi Sinha expressed his enthusiasm about Vempati joining the board, highlighting his extensive knowledge and the value he will add to the organization. Vempati's appointment strengthens BARC's leadership as the organization navigates the evolving media landscape.
