SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong to join Air India board post Vistara merger

Goh Choon Phong, the CEO of Singapore Airlines (SIA), is set to join the board of Air India following its merger with Vistara, the joint venture between Tata Group and SIA, on November 12. PB Balaji, the group CFO of Tata Motors, will also join the Air India board, according to reports.

These appointments will be officially approved by the Air India board once the Ministry of Civil Aviation authorizes Singapore Airlines’ investment, which, as reported by ET, would give SIA a 25.1 percent stake in Air India.

Additionally, Hamish Maxwell, who previously managed flight operations at Vistara, has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India.

The Tata Group will take charge of Air India's management, while SIA will deploy personnel to support flight operations and engineering after the merger.

Phong, who joined SIA in 1990, has held numerous senior management roles in Singapore and abroad. He became a member of SIA’s Board on October 1, 2010, and assumed the role of CEO on January 1, 2011. Before this, he served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and the Regions, and President of SIA Cargo. His previous roles included Senior Vice President positions in Finance, Information Technology, and Commercial Technology, with overseas assignments in China and Scandinavia.
