SOM Distilleries unveils India's first Twist-Cap Beer "Woodpecker"
SOM Distilleries and Breweries Ltd. (SDBL) has introduced a groundbreaking innovation to the Indian beer market with the launch of "Woodpecker Premium Beer," the country's first beer featuring a twist cap. This unique packaging, offering ease and convenience, eliminates the need for a bottle opener, transforming how beer is consumed.
Launching in Karnataka, one of SDBL’s fastest-growing markets, Woodpecker Premium Beer debuts in two variants: *Woodpecker Glide, a premium mild beer, and **Woodpecker Crest*, a strong, bold beer. Crafted with imported two-row barley, Indian malts, and hops from Germany’s Rainier region, Woodpecker is India's first cross-malt beer. The blend of two malts and a meticulous 30-day brewing process ensures unmatched consistency and rich flavor.
The twist cap design, with vibrant yellow caps for Glide and sleek black caps for Crest, enhances convenience and style. This innovation represents more than just new packaging—it’s a revolution in the beer industry, promising an easier and more enjoyable experience for consumers. Woodpecker also incorporates sustainable practices with direct print technology, eliminating the need for paper labels.
“We are proud to introduce India’s first-ever twist cap beer to the Karnataka market,” said JK Arora, Chairman and MD of SOM Distilleries. “This innovation sets a new benchmark in quality, convenience, and flavor, offering beer lovers a premium experience without compromise.”
SDBL has expanded its portfolio with Woodpecker, available in 650ml, 330ml bottles, and 500ml cans. Following the success of its 5-litre in-home pack launched last year, the company is now offering a full range of SKUs to meet consumer demand.
The launch is supported by the "Make Space" campaign, which promotes a lifestyle of celebration and friendships, resonating with young, experience-driven consumers.
Woodpecker Premium Beer is now available across Karnataka, inviting consumers to twist open a new era of beer enjoyment.
