Soni Razdan on her Second Innings with Prime Amazon’s Pippa

Veteran actress Soni Razdan, known for films like 36 Chowringhee Lane, Saaransh and Daddy, is being presently seen in Raja Menon’s war drama Pippa, on Amazon Prime. Soni, who has started her second innings in the industry, says: “I am enjoying this phase thoroughly. I am getting to play different kinds of roles with a variety of roles. I am grateful for the roles that are being offered to me now. I am going with the flow and it's more like an avalanche of roles. It’s a great time for actresses like us and I am enjoying every bit of it.”
Soni had started her career with films like 36 Chowringee Lane directed by Aparna Sen, feels today’s generation of actors are very smart as compared to earlier times. She says: “It’s wonderful when you work with them. Actors of today are smarter compared to us during that age. We were so bad. Also there are expectations from us, as we have been in the profession for a while. When I get a script, I read it, get excited, I learn my lines and in that process I become the character. Director Raja Menon is a great asset likeAparna Sen, he knows what he wants and makes sure he gets it. He creates that personality and puts it in that role.”
When asked whether she discusses her scripts with her daughter, Alia Bhatt, she replied: “Sometimes I do discuss. Our biggest challenge is that we don’t live together now. When we were together we would discuss other stuff because films were not a topic of discussion at the dinner or breakfast table. Alia is never concerned about the size of the project or her role. What is important is how she feels about the film, as an actor. Now most of the time she gives me a video call in the morning to say hello to her daughter Raha.”
Soni Razdan also shared her reaction, when Alia Bhatt won the National Award. She said: "It was one of the most moving and emotional moments of my life. I was in tears."
