Sony launches Krishnaben Khakhrawala

In a flood of serials with saas bahus, adultery and business rivalry theme. Sony Entertainment Television is all set to bring to your screens a refreshing concept, a show that is based on spreading meaningful entertainment which can be enjoyed by the whole family together. Krishnaben Khakhrawala is the story of a woman of substance who is a symbol of positivity and inspiration. The show displays cultural values and provides social awakening messages through its hilarious situations. Krishnaben Khakhrawala is brought alive by Sony Entertainment Television and Neela Telefilms, the makers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Set in Mumbai, Krishnaben Khakhrawala is the tale of a lady who has single handed but happily struggled throughout her life and brought up her kids after the death of her husband. The show is based around the journey of her life which has been a mixed bag of joy and pain and how Krishnaben has taken everything in her stride and has become what she is today. Krishnaben ka khakhra -- a crispy, crunchy Gujarati flatbread made from spiced wheat flour -- is a much-loved snack in the city. The khakhra-specialist herself is quite well-known as a hardworking, loving and caring woman who’s got a laugh to share with everyone, an ear to lend and the courage to take up the cause of those in distress. She’s got this unique way of dealing with sticky issues and she has always come on top of it and we celebrate it as Krishnagiri. While her favourite exclamation, howwe ho (Yes!), is just another extension of the positivity and cheer she spreads all around her.  The character of Krishnaben has a powerful yet humble demeanour. An indigenous woman, her principles are steeped in traditional values but are cloaked with a modern outlook – the ideal face of a woman of India.

Announcing the show Mr N.P. Singh, COO, Multi Screen Media, says, “We have been long associated with Neela Telefims and I am delighted to take our relationship further with ‘Krishnaben Khakrawala’ yet another offering from Neela Telefilms, who have made a mark in the Indian television industry with their distinctive and successful Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’. We hope we can recreate the same magic once again with Krishnaben Khakrawala. Sony Entertainment Television has always delivered shows with newer shades of entertainment that deal with the day-to-day life of every individual. Krishnaben Khakhrawala is one such unique concept and we are sure that the audience will love with this show.”

Ajit Thakur, EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television says, “At Sony Entertainment Television, our biggest objective is to offer programming that will help break the clutter. Shows like Krishnaben Khakhrawala deliver a strong proposition of differentiated and distinctive content. I am very delighted with the way the character of Krishnaben has shaped up. I am sure that this character will become an inspiration for all and stay in the minds of the people for a long time. This show is a light-hearted drama revolving around the female protagonist and her journey through life. It is a very simple and relatable story that will cut across all age groups and bring families together to watch the show at 8 pm.

Ajay Bhalwankar, Programming Head, Sony Entertainment Television adds: “Krishnaben Khakhrawala is an inspiring and thought-provoking prime time property placed at 8:00 pm weekly slot. It deals with the story of an extremely strong 45 year old female protagonist in the age of much younger protagonists in the television space. This protagonist faces complex situations with great ease and self-confidence. Krishnaben is almost iconic.”

Speaking on the launch, Asit Modi, Chairman, Neela Telefilms said, Krishnaben Khakrawala is a very different kind of show which will provide meaningful entertainment to the viewers. It is a story of ‘Inspiration and Hope’ based on the life of an average Indian housewife who not only fulfils her domestic duties but also dons the garb of an entrepreneur with aplomb and is an image of positivity. I am hopeful that the viewers will love this show as much, as they have loved Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma.”
