Subway taps former PepsiCo CMO Greg Lyons as Global CMO

Subway®, a global restaurant giant, announced the appointment of Greg Lyons as its new Global Chief Marketing Officer (GCMO), effective May 19th. Lyons, a marketing veteran with over 25 years of experience, will join Subway's executive leadership team, reporting directly to Interim CEO Carrie Walsh.

In his new role, Lyons will spearhead Subway's global marketing strategy, overseeing culinary innovation, digital platforms, data analytics, and business transformation initiatives. He will also collaborate closely with Publicis' Leo New York, Subway's recently appointed U.S. creative agency, to implement a transformative, guest-focused marketing approach.

"With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, Greg is widely respected for his ability to renew iconic brands through integrated, consumer-led marketing,” said Subway Interim CEO Carrie Walsh. "We are honored to welcome Greg to the team and confident he will be instrumental in our continued journey to elevate Subway’s position as a global leader in the sandwich market.”

Lyons joins Subway from PepsiCo Beverages North America Portfolio, where he served as CMO and successfully revitalized their beverage portfolio through dynamic strategies, communications, and innovation. Notably, he led the Pepsi brand to achieve 18 consecutive quarters of growth and supported the success of other prominent brands like Gatorade, Pure Leaf, and MTN DEW.

"I’ve been a fan of the Subway brand for as long as I can remember, and it’s an honor to join the company at such an exciting moment in its journey,” said Lyons. "I look forward to building on Subway’s iconic legacy and bringing its creative strategy to life in bold, innovative ways.”

This appointment underscores Subway's ongoing commitment to being the freshest, most convenient, and most affordable sandwich choice for consumers. The company remains focused on strategic growth initiatives aimed at enhancing franchisee profitability and strengthening its global market position.
