A star-studded gathering of cricketing greats is set to take place in India with the launch of the inaugural International Masters League (IML). This highly anticipated T20 franchise tournament will feature cricket legends from six major cricket-playing nations – India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, England, and Sri Lanka.
The IML is a collaboration between two of the sport's greatest icons, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, in partnership with PMG Sports and global sports marketing giant SPORTFIVE. The six-team league will bring some of the game's most celebrated players back to the pitch, reigniting classic rivalries and rekindling memories for fans. Sachin Tendulkar will lead the charge as the league's marquee player and ambassador, while Sunil Gavaskar has been appointed as the Commissioner of the League.
The IML matches will be held across Mumbai, Lucknow, and Raipur, providing cricket enthusiasts the chance to witness their heroes in action once again. The tournament will aim to bring back the magic of these legendary players, offering fans an exciting mix of nostalgia and high-octane cricketing action.
Speaking about the league, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his excitement: “Cricket continues to grow in popularity globally, and the rise of T20 has brought new fans into the game. The International Masters League is a chance to revive age-old battles in a new format. Sportspersons never truly retire at heart, and I’m confident that all players will prepare hard to deliver top-quality cricket and bring joy to the fans.”
Sunil Gavaskar echoed Tendulkar’s sentiments: “T20 cricket offers an amazing opportunity to relive the sport's magic. The IML will bring fans closer to the legends they have admired for years, creating a celebration of nostalgia and unforgettable moments.”
SPORTFIVE CEO Stefan Felsing emphasized the significance of the league, calling it a major step forward for the company’s presence in cricket. “This tournament offers a tremendous opportunity to enhance our global footprint in the sport, and we’re excited to bring iconic players back to the pitch.”
