'The Diplomat' : A powerful cinematic adaptation with standout acting
Based on the true story of Uzma Ahmed, an Indian lady forced in to marriage and tortured in Pakistan until the Indian Embassy rescued her and did her "desh waapsi"; The Diplomat is a superfine cinematic adaptation by Shivam Nair with standout performance from John Abraham.
John plays the Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh, who faces an uphill task of securing Uzma's (Sadia Khateeb) repatriation to India and shielding her from the clutches of local militant mob as well as the Pakistan intelligence sources. It is one of his career best performances, totally restraint and highly effective. For a change, no usual maar dhaad, crash boom bang, John only slaps a table once, nothing more!!
The pretty Sadia Khateeb is impressive as Uzma; note her courtroom breakdown moment. Superb!! Kumud Mishra lends good support as the Pakistani lawyer. Revathi as the late great Sushma Swaraj is memorable.
Overall, The Diplomat is worth a watch and falls in the league of John Abraham's Madras Cafe (2013) and Parmanu (2018). He actually completes his patriotic trilogy with this. Bravo!!
