TV this week: Zee makes it to #1 in Week 43
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Chennai Express after breaking box office records has taken the television medium too by storm. The world TV premiere of the movie aired on 20th October 2013, fetched Zee TV 19,541 TVTs and consequently a growth of 100 million TVT making it the number one channel this week. The 40 crore acquisition stood the channel in good stead and helped it to overtake Star Plus which had sustained the no.1 position since several weeks now. DID 4 with maximum viewership too contributed to the channel’s growth ultimately pushing Star Plus to no.2 position.
As per TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 43 (October 20 - October 26) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Zee TV has overtaken Star Plus to be the leader in week 43. Star Plus follows at no. 2. No change is seen in Colors which continues to remain at no. 3. Life OK has jumped to 4th position thus bringing SAB TV to 5th spot and Sony remains stable at no. 6 this week.
Following are the details of GVT’s recorded by the Hindi GECs this week: Zee TV notched up viewership to record 505,442 GVTs (409,304) Star Plus lost points this week bringing down the channel’s ratings to register 492,849 GVTs (517,048). In third place is Colors which registered a score of 423,584 GVTs (384,496). Increased viewership has notched up the ratings of Life OK which is now at 4th spot and recorded a score of 334,635 GVTs (316,904). Meanwhile SAB TV ratings too witnessed a huge jump and garnered 331,674 GVTs (319,214) thus bringing the channel to 5th position this week. A sharp plunge in viewership has brought Sony to the 6th spot and the channel recorded 281,638 GVTs (292,327) in week 43. Sahara One viewership increased marginally as it registered a score of 36323 GVTs (32081) but continues to remain at the bottom of the chart.
Zee TV riding on the premiere of Chennai Express held its viewers and dislodged Star Plus from its longstanding no.1 position and its relative share rose to 21.33% against last week’s 18.28%. Star Plus now at No. 2 lost 24 million in its Gross TVT in Week 43 with a relative share of 20.80% (last week 23.09% relative share). Colors added 39 million TVT and had a relative share of 17.87% (last week 17.17% relative share). Channel Life OK added 18 million TVT this week and its relative share was at 14.12% in week 43 against 14.15% in the previous week. SAB TV which was at no. 4 slipped to no. 5 this week and the channel recorded 14% relative share (last week 14.26% relative share). Sony lost 10 million viewers in week 43. The channel recorded 11.88% relative share (last week 13.05% of relative share).
Now moving on to the ratings of the most watched shows on the Hindi GECs:
This week’s chart topper Zee TV’s fictional series Qubool Hai ratings dipped to register 4998 TVTs (5412). Pavitra Rishta ratings too dropped to score 4419 TVTs (4736). Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke saw a huge increase in viewership and garnered 4843 TVTs (4660). This week viewership for historical show Jodha Akbar dropped marginally to record a score of 8299 TVTs (8551). Viewership of drama series Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se dipped and has registered a score of 4412 TVTs (4726). The recently launched Dance reality show DID 4 registered 6075 TVTs and comedy serial Bh se Bhade generated 2856 TVTs in the first week of its launch. Hindi feature film Chennai Express on the channel garnered an astounding 19541 TVTs thus propelling the channel to the no. 1 position
The two most popular shows on Star Plus, Diya aur Baati Hum and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai both saw a remarkable rise in their ratings and garnered 10367 TVTs (9981) and 7347 TVTs (6819) respectively. Pyar Ka Dard Hai saw a huge rise in viewership as it recorded 7178 TVTs (6878) and same goes for Saathiya which recorded a score of 7474 TVTs (7007). The epic series Mahabharata gained eyeballs to record 5530 TVTs (4815) and Saraswati Chandra ratings dipped to scored 5170 TVTs (6009) in week 43.
Reality show Bigg Boss 7 on Colors gained marginally this week and registered 4587 TVTs (4246) while long running series Balika Vadhu saw a huge surge in its ratings this week to record 7735 TVTs (5767). Meanwhile a marginal rise in viewership led Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon to record 4305 TVTs (4230). This week Uttaran ratings picked up to record a score of 3722 TVTs (3663) and comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil viewership remained stable as it registered 5250 TVTs (5228). The new offering ‘24’, on the channel picked up slightly and garnered 3050 TVTs (2776) in week 43 of TAM 2013.
The popular mythological series Mahadev on Life OK grabbed eyeballs as it recorded 3759 TVTs (3316). No change was seen in the ratings of Do Dil Ek Jaan which registerd 1719 TVTs (1711) . The other offerings on the channel, namely, Savdhan India registered 2577 TVTs (2563) Shapath viewership increased marginally and registered 3699 TVTs (3460). Meanwhile among the new shows on the channel Ek Boond Ishq recorded 2749 TVTs (2,673) and The Bachelorette India recorded 2052 TVTs as against last week’s score of 1875 TVTs.
Fiction show on SAB TV, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah remains the undisputed channel leader. The show has seen a surge in viewership in week 43 and recorded a score of 8161 TVTs (7224). Chidiya Ghar too gained points to record 3852 TVTs (3386). Lapataganj on the channel gained marginally and registered a score of 2217 TVTs (2189) and Baalveer too notched up points to garner 2904 TVTs (2750) this week.
The long running crime series CID on Sony Entertainment Television witnessed a huge rise in its ratings and recorded a score of 5009 TVTs (3229) this week. Crime Patrol too followed suit and registered a score of 3947 TVTs (2940). Historical show Maharana Pratap gained viewership in week 43 and registered 2772 TVTs (2680). KBC on the channel lost points this week to register 3570 TVTs (3796) in Week 43.
Among the movie channels Zee Cinema saw a dip and registered 195223 GVTs (205828) , Star Gold ratings increased to record 190414 GVTs (179697) . Movies OK on the other hand saw an increase in its ratings and recorded 124887 GVTs (116200). Viewership of the new entrant among movie channels, &pictures has seen improvement to record 67725 GVTs (64687). Meanwhile not much change was seen in the ratings of Zee Anmol which recorded 52731 GVTs (52080) and same goes for Max which recorded a score of 198492 GVTs (199906) as per data recorded in week 43 of TAM, 2013.
