UPI Onboarding Limit Lifted for WhatsApp Pay in India

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has lifted the user onboarding cap for WhatsApp Pay, enabling the messaging platform to offer its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services to all of its Indian users.

Previously, WhatsApp Pay operated under a phased user onboarding limit, gradually expanding its user base with NPCI approval. This restriction has now been removed, allowing the platform to onboard users at scale.

WhatsApp Pay will continue to adhere to all existing UPI guidelines and regulations for Third-Party Application Providers (TPAPs).

This development is expected to significantly boost the reach and usage of WhatsApp Pay within India.
