Vodafone & Intelsat enhance satellite connectivity for hard-to-reach areas
Vodafone and Intelsat, the integrated satellite and terrestrial network operator, have renewed their collaboration to enhance satellite connectivity services for organizations operating in hard-to-reach locations or disaster zones.
This expanded agreement will enhance Vodafone's terrestrial networks by providing enterprises with broadband connectivity in remote and underserved regions. As a result, businesses, governments, and charities will be able to support various applications, including cargo tracking, connecting new or temporary sites, and providing additional resilience in emergency situations.
Vodafone is incorporating Intelsat’s Flex portfolio into its satellite connectivity offerings for both private and public sectors worldwide. Utilizing the Intelsat service, which is based on a network of GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) satellites, Vodafone will provide two types of connectivity products: Communications-on-the-Move (COTM) using a vehicle-mounted antenna and Communications-on-the-Pause (COTP) utilizing a compact satellite terminal.
Intelsat’s services will also support Vodafone’s charitable initiative, the Vodafone Foundation, focusing on connected health and education projects across Europe and Africa. The Vodafone Foundation is also prepared to assist NGOs, governments, and relief agencies in responding to environmental and humanitarian crises.
Marika Auramo, CEO of Vodafone Business, commented: “Vodafone’s agreement with Intelsat adds depth and breadth to our global network. With these new services, we can provide additional connectivity and resilience to customers in some of the hardest to reach places, whether they’re on the move, or need to quickly establish communications following an environmental or humanitarian disaster.”
“The welfare of communities and their citizens is increasingly linked to the ability to access reliable connectivity services,” added Jean Philippe Gillet, SVP, Media, Mobility and Networks at Intelsat. “The goal of our Flex services is to make it easier for our customers to leverage the reach and reliability of Intelsat’s network to deliver connectivity wherever they may operate, be it charitable initiatives like the Vodafone Foundation or connectivity for global enterprises, industrial operations, or rapid-response organizations.”
