Weekend Exclusive | Madhura Naik: Up, close and personal!

The versatile Madhura Naik is a model, singer and an actress. She began her career as a fashion model in the music video "Umar Bhar" by Shael Oswal. A popular face on Indian television, she has starred in possibly the biggest shows on the small screen. One of her first acting project was the daily soap Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, followed by Kayamath, Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Sangam, Kis Desh MeinHai Meraa Dil, Kahe Naa Kahe, Pyar ki yeh ek kahaani and Hum Ne Li Hai Shapath.  As the lead in "Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath" on Life OK she became an exclusive face with Star Network and appeared in many live performances and stage shows with the channel. Her acting talent noticed by Bollywood producers led her to star in Yash Raj Films’ Pyaar Impossible and Good Boy Bad Boy and now she is keen to add to this list.

 

A well-known figure in the fashion circuit, Madhura endorsed Baume Mercier as the only Indian fashion face for the year 2008-09. She has also done multiple photo-shoots for various brands and designers like Shoppers’ Stop, Shane and Falguni Peacock, Archana Kochar and Emporio Armani. Having made her name in fiction shows, Madhura ventured into the reality television space with Khatron Ke Khiladi and will now be seen as a co-host with Ashmit Patel in SuperDude on bindass® where she will help Ashmit in training 13 hunks from across India in the art of flirting. The pretty actress is presently focused and excited about the   upcoming reality show on UTV Bindaas, SuperDude Season 2. Madhura has a dual role to play in the series, as she is not only hosting the show but will also sit as judge along with British actress Sofia Maria Hayat and Ashmit Patel.

After a successful first season of Superstud, the show returns with the second season titled SuperDude. As the name suggests it is about ‘The guy every man wants to be like and every woman wants to be with!’ In this show a bunch of 13 boys who claim to be casanovas are auditioned and brought to a mansion. Here their skills are polished even further and they are trained by a “guru”/mentor (Ashmit Patel) in the art of approaching and impressing women.  This season the first two episodes are dedicated to auditions, profiles and introductions. 13 contestants are split in two groups/teams, good boys and bad boys at the onset depending upon their qualities. The winning team will present the Superdude. The show is expected to go on air soon and will see Ashmit mentoring the contestants on how to woo girls or how to sweep them off the floor and be a SuperDude! Helping Ashmit in this task will be Sofia Hayat..

  

Madhura Naik spoke to Adgully about her career in modeling, acting and her upcoming show on bindass®, SuperDude . Following are some of the excerpts of the conversation:

Madhura will be a co-host as well as a judge along with Ashmit Patel and Sofia Maria Hayat on the upcoming show ‘Superdude’ to be aired on bindass. Sharing her experience onscreen with both of them she said excitedly, “Being a co host and a judge with both Ashmit and Sofia has been great fun! There was not a moment when I ever felt bored, they are born entertainers, especially Sofia, her jokes have always cracked me up! “

 

In Madhura’s opinion men need to work hard to woo or impress a woman especially women of the present generation. She considers it important for a man to be good looking as well as intelligent enough to hold a conversation. With regard to the tactics required on their part to be successful she says, “Today’s woman is not easy to woo or make an impression on, there's a lot that goes in to make that one impression, intellect, chivalry, personality, right attitude, good sense of humour, but more importantly its always important to be true and to be you! Being yourself is the first step, rest all can be learnt.”

 

SuperDude is expected to go on air soon. Describing the training given to the participants and their receptivity to the training she said, “The training was a lot of fun, loads of dating tips were given, lots of dating games were played and all the 13 contestants were very open to the training, I'm sure they learnt a lot and now have gone back to the outer world as better personalities and as superdudes!”

 

She has been associated with Balaji Telefilms as an actress and done several soaps with them. Commenting on her association with them she said that she had a great working experience with them. She also adds that acting being her passion she has proved her versatility and now hopes to prove her metal as a host in the upcoming reality show.

 

In retrospect, being a well known figure in the fashion circuit, when asked how she would rate the Indian model in today’s global scene she opines ,“ Today Indian models are going global, we see a lot of our Indian faces walking international fashion weeks and endorsing internal brands and doing ad campaigns for high fashion brands which is great. Indian models have definitely created a niche for themselves in today’s day.”

 

She also has to her credit several live performances on stage. “I've done many live performances and stage performances for Star networks and TV award functions. Also I'm performing on the 11th of October with my rock band at Hard Rock cafe and I'm pretty much excited about it! I've been wanting to always sing for a rockband and it’s finally happening,” exclaims the vivacious Madhura.

 

Her journey spanning from a modeling career to singing and later an actress first in the television and later in films has been a long one. Given a choice which of the three careers has made a lasting impression on her and which would she like to pursue? Displaying a very focused attitude  Madhura on an end note said , “From being a model to television to films, its been a great journey, I personally think films is where I would definitely want to be in and fashion for me will always have a special place in my heart, I would love to some day launch my own designer label.”
