Weekend Exclusive | Script of hardwork and Honesty: Ashwni Dhir
A creative script writer and a film director, Ashwni Dhir began his career with television shows and in the early days was much appreciated for his script written for Pankaj Kapur’s ‘Office Office ‘. He was associated with the show for eight years. Presently his serials 'Lapataganj', 'Chidiyaghar' and 'Hum Aapke Hain In Laws' are being aired on the comedy channel SAB TV. Some of the films Dhir has been associated with include ‘Son Of Sardaar’ which is his third film after ‘One Two Three’ and ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’
Ashwni Dhir, in an exclusive talk with Adgully , spoke about his scripts, rapport with his actors, his association with SAB TV and also shared other facts that led to his immense success in the television industry.
When asked about his association with SAB TV and how he gained much appreciation and recognition through his shows aired on the channel he said, “It’s been quite some time now that I’ve been part of the television industry and I already have two shows which are doing fairly well on SAB TV viz. ‘Lapataganj’ & ‘Chidiyaghar’, and now adding one more to them is the newly launched show ‘Hum Aaapke Hain In Laws’. So, there is a certain attachment that I share with SAB and I am happy about it.”
Keen observation shows that most of the actors cast in his shows are repeated. Discussing further about this he elaborated the reason for this trend. “If one of my shows goes off air, I don’t want certain talent to go waste with that particular show. While working I share a good rapport with my actors, so when I cast my actors in my next show there is comfort level and trust involved,” said Dhir.
Dhir has always written skillfully for both the big and the small screen, so when asked what makes him think so creatively, Dhir explained, “While writing I portray myself as that character for whom I am writing the script and when I feel that I am doing justice to the particular character then only I continue with my writing.”
‘Hardwork & Honesty’ have been the essential factors that have worked for Dhir and he prefers to continue working with such ideals.
The one thing that he likes about SAB TV as a channel is that the channel by itself communicates the reality of its shows. “As the channel is for every individual, the shows are based on mixed emotions, it not only presents humor for its audiences, but also other emotions such as sadness and drama too,” said Dhir .
His shows have always been a class apart from the rest. Sharing the reason for this he said “They are all based on reality and every day emotions. In real life, no one is as negative as it’s been portrayed on other shows. I just present the real life of a real person. Our audiences judge us and I intend to present my best work for them.”
He is working on a film script, the name of which has not yet been disclosed. His advice to aspiring writers is that they should be a reader first then later transform into a thoughtful writer. | By Ranjana Gupta [ranjana(at)adgully.com]
