What does it take to be a Young leader, discusses YBF

Young talent is being promoted big time like never before. The insights and imagination of youth today is being shaped into reality and they are motivated to be young leaders in which ever field they are. This is the story all over the world with almost every organization no matter how big or small.

The Bombay Chambers of Commerce has also announced, Young Bombay Forum which was launched with John Abraham in 2007. This year at the young leaders' Conclave program the topic undertaken was "What does it take to be a Young leader" where the insights were shared by Ravi Kiran, CEO, South Asia and Emerging Market leader- Specialist Solutions, Starcom MediaVest Group, Priya Kumar, Corporate Trainer and CEO & Chief Facilitator of Priya Kumar'Training Systems and Ashni Biyani, Design Manager, Future Group.

At the occasion Bharat Doshi, President Bombay Chamber and Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd was also present who shared his views, "We are looking at building future leaders and I am going to advice all the old as well as young people to think as big as possible."

Proceeding further with Ravi Kiran who emphasized on the fact that besides giving a speech on such occasions 99% of the time he walks off with a learning. He puts leadership across as a challenging and a wide topic. The fact is, it is difficult to say whether traits define a leader or a leader defines traits. Therefore, he stressed on 18 different points like patience, values& principles, definition of loyalty, challenges, quick learning, and so forth.

One of the most important characters of a leader according to Ravi Kiran, is "See how quickly you can learn and sometimes think of imagining that is impossible and work towards it." He further enlightens, "Experience based decision might fail but Imagination based decisions succeed; Failure to me is over glamorized as a teacher, and I feel Success is a better teacher."

Discussing about Business it is important that it should not be about killing but building and one must be flexible to be a survivor. Kiran also quotes, "I just read this, If you do not find time for recreation then find enough time for illness later" which proves that hard work and self recreation from time to time go hand in hand.

All these qualities lead towards being a good leader and a successful one where when you celebrate success it becomes a habit. The constant drive should be to outdo oneself. To help further Priya kumar says, "Get someone to push you to success and drive it further from there." It is necessary to make up your mind to succeed and nothing else can stop you, and if anything stops then they are excuses.

Kumar gives a very personal insight, "Success is defined where you are going everyday and your passion will be judged by answering the question to yourself, that will you do it for free"

On a final note Biyani who just spoke to the point says, "It is about rewriting the rules and retaining values" The future group is giving a lot of value to the empowerment of women today. They want to see India at a state like Bhutan, where they don't measure GDP but Happiness Index.

All summed up into one power packed leader. Adgully wishes; India and world over there would be such encouraging organizations that would support young talents with enlightening speakers to share their experiences to make the world a better place to live in.
