ZEE's Punit Misra Resigns Following Rahul Johri's Departure
After the departure of Rahul Johri, ZEEL faces further upheaval as Punit Misra, responsible for Content and International Markets, steps down.
As per media reports, Misra's role entails managing content for ZEE's TV network and its digital platform ZEE5, both domestically and internationally across 190 countries. ZEEL's MD and CEO, Punit Goenka, announced a 20 percent reduction in his own compensation on April 2 as part of a strategy emphasizing frugality, optimization, and quality content.
The failed ZEE-Sony merger in January 2024 prompted ZEEL to initiate a restructuring plan aimed at cost reduction. By March 2024, the company had streamlined its Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC), resulting in a 50 percent reduction in its workforce.
In addition to operational changes, ZEEL's leadership saw significant adjustments, including the restructuring of the revenue division of its broadcast business on March 9. Ashish Sehgal, Chief Growth Officer overseeing advertisement revenue, was placed under direct reporting to Goenka, while Johri resigned from his position.
