Agni review: A fiery tribute to unsung heroes, but falls short of greatness

In 2017, my neighbour's home caught fire and it was due to the prompt and swift firefighter team that my house was saved from being gutted. Since then, I realised the true worth of these unsung heroes!! Agni, the latest Amazon Prime release, pays a fitting ode to these firefighters and deserves a dekho just for this...

As we encounter these bravehearts undergoing their tough mission one after another as a series of fire incidents rock Mumbai, there is an element of doubt about it being a deliberate act of arson. So who's doing the mischief and why?!!

The cast is first rate. Pratik Gandhi, Divyendu, Saiyami Kher and Sai Tamhankar shine in their roles. It is interesting to watch the simmering rivalry between Pratik, a fire engineer and Divyendu, a ruthless cop. Anant Jog as the minister, literally carries forward his slimy character from Singham (2011) and Rowdy Rathore (2012). Marathi actor Jitendra Joshi delivers a standout performance. Here's wishing to see him more in Bollywood.

Director Rahul Dholakia, whose last movie Raees (2017) glorified a bootlegger turned terrorist, gets his intention in the right place this time. Agni is certainly worth a one time watch on OTT. The problem is that it doesn't break any new ground after a while...though it could!!
