DDB Group Melbourne elevates Giles Watson to Executive Creative Director

DDB Group Melbourne has promoted Giles Watson to the role of Executive Creative Director (ECD), further strengthening its creative leadership team. In his new position, Watson will spearhead the agency’s creative direction, working closely with Chief Creative Officer Psembi Kinstan.

Watson first joined DDB Group Melbourne as a creative director and was instrumental in building the agency’s creative leadership team. He was later promoted to Deputy ECD in April last year, playing a key role in expanding the agency’s workforce to over 100 and delivering award-winning campaigns.

Throughout his tenure, Watson has been a driving force behind some of the agency’s most celebrated work, including Movember’s ‘Mancestry’ and ‘The Mo is Calling’, Porsche’s ‘Taycan Arcade’, NGV’s ‘Creative Index’, and the global launch of the ‘University of Dyslexic Thinking’.

Before joining DDB Group Melbourne, Watson worked with Clemenger BBDO and Howatson+Co, where he contributed to high-profile campaigns such as Matilda Bay’s ‘Rejected Ales’ and Snickers’ ‘Hunger Insurance’.

His promotion comes as DDB Group Melbourne continues its upward trajectory, expanding its client base and creative team. It also follows the recent promotion of Matt Pearce to Chief Strategy Officer.

Chief Creative Officer Psembi Kinstan praised Watson’s leadership, calling him "the best in the business."

"He is the epitome of the modern creative that champions every medium and understands the power of a big idea," Kinstan said. "No one works harder to deliver the most original and effective work. He’s an incredible role model and a trusted partner to our clients."

General Manager Khia Croy echoed similar sentiments, describing Watson as the "perfect person for the job."

"He is, and always has been, the embodiment of DDB’s ‘Talented and Nice’ philosophy," Croy said. "There is simply no greater partner for our clients or leader for our team."

Watson expressed his excitement for the new role, saying he is honored to be part of the agency’s next chapter.

"I was lucky enough to join a team of incredibly ambitious minds here at DDB Melbourne—people who inspire me every day," Watson said. "I couldn’t be more excited (or intimidated) to now have this opportunity to help shape our future."

With Watson at the creative helm, DDB Group Melbourne is poised to continue delivering innovative and impactful work for its clients.
