January 2025 Box Office: Rs 1,013 Cr gross, Telugu films dominate with 44% share

The year started on a healthy note, with films released in January 2025 grossing ₹1,013  Cr at the domestic box office, including projected future collections of films still running in  theatres. The Sankranthi festive period has once again proven favorable for Telugu films,  with three major releases, led by Sankranthiki Vasthunam, collectively contributing more  than ₹480 Cr to the month's box office. 

Top 10 Films 

Sankranthiki Vasthunam has emerged as the top-grossing film of the month, and the only  film to gross over ₹200 Cr in the month. Read this analysis on the resounding success of the  film. 

Apart from the three festival releases in Telugu (Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Game Changer &  Daaku Maharaaj), the only other film to surpass ₹100 crore this month was the Hindi film  Sky Force. Meanwhile, the Tamil film Madha Gaja Raja was the only other film to cross ₹50  crore.

Language Share 

For language share calculation, language-wise box office of films releasing in multiple  languages is assigned to the corresponding language. 

As a result of the three films mentioned above, Telugu language contributed almost half the  month's box office, amassing 44% language share. Hindi language lacked major releases  besides Sky Force, and had a share below 30% in January 2025.
