Kareena Kapoor shines in the gripping whodunit "The Buckingham Murders"

Set in UK and executed like a British detective series, The Buckingham Murders is a slow burning whodunit, which is elevated to a "can see" level due to its leading lady Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Kareena plays a middle-aged detective investigating the disappearance of a school kiddo from the Buckingham neighborhood. The needle of suspicion points to many, particularly two youngsters involved in a drug racket. Personally, the detective is simultaneously grappling with the loss of her young son.

Directed by the talented Hansal Mehta whose Shahid (2012) and Omerta (2017) I truly adore, The Buckingham Murders is relatively lethargic and casual in approach, taking time to brew and come to its boiling point. But once it picks speed post interval, there's a lot to be savoured here. Plus, the climactic revelation of the killer is totally unpredictable.

Finally, the film rides totally on Kareena Kapoor's shoulders and the lady is an absolute stunner on screen. From her hammy Poo days, Kareena has come a long way, excelling now in mature roles and pulling off everything from brazen comedy in The Crew (2024) to such a serious brooding role in The Buckingham Murders. She is indeed, the superstarni of Bollywood. Admire her or hate her but you just can't ignore her. The Buckingham Murders would be difficult to sit through without her!!
