Mondelez International in talks to acquire Hershey in a $50 billion deal

Mondelez International Inc is in talks to acquire Hershey Co, as per industry sources. This would result in a food giant worth of around $50 billion amalgamating the diversified portfolio of Mondelez with the candy and chocolate brands of Hershey.

Mondelez based out of Chicago, valued at nearly $84 billion has initially approached Hershey for a merger with the latter being valued at nearly $35 billion. This is the second time Mondelez is interesteed in the acquisition of Hershey. In the year 2016, Hershey rejected the bid that Mondelez placed for $23 billion.

Currently the market value of Hershey Co is nearly $40 billiion which includes debt, making the potential acquisitions as one of the year's biggest deals. 

Hershey has been facing some hurdles in the present economic scenario which has led to its financial outlook being revised. Mondelez is looking to expand its business in the chocolate, baked snacks, biscuit  segment. As per analysts Mondelez is open to acquiring new brands.
