OpenAI unveils updated version of video creation tool Sora

OpenAI has launched Sora Turbo, an advanced version of its AI model designed to generate realistic videos from text. This upgrade brings significant improvements in speed and efficiency compared to the original Sora model, which was first introduced earlier this year. Available today for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, Sora Turbo promises to accelerate the development of AI that can simulate reality and interact with the physical world.

Sora Turbo allows users to generate videos in up to 1080p resolution, with durations of up to 20 seconds. The videos can be produced in various aspect ratios, including widescreen, vertical, and square. Additionally, the update introduces a new storyboard tool, enabling users to create videos frame-by-frame and bring in their own assets for customization. Users can also generate entirely new content from text prompts.

The model is included in the ChatGPT Plus subscription, offering users 50 videos per month at 480p resolution or fewer videos at 720p. For those needing more advanced features, the Pro plan provides ten times the usage, higher resolutions, and longer video durations.

In line with its commitment to transparency and responsible use, OpenAI has implemented multiple safeguards. All videos generated by Sora Turbo will feature C2PA metadata, ensuring that users can verify the video’s origin. The company has also incorporated visible watermarks and deepfake detection measures to reduce misuse. Sora Turbo’s early release aims to encourage creative exploration while setting the stage for further refinement of the model and its safeguards.

As OpenAI continues to improve the technology, Sora Turbo is expected to unlock new possibilities for video storytelling, giving users the tools to explore creative ideas and push the boundaries of digital content creation.
