More news make disappear from Google
The MediaNews Group, the first of the two publishers, owns the Denver Post and 53 other daily newspapers. The second, AH Belo, publishes the Dallas Morning News. If MediaNews effects the pullout, Google may not be able to access the content that the publisher places in the premium zone early next year. As for AH Belo, it has said that it was deliberating the plan because it wanted to initiate online subscriptions.
Currently, 100 publishers, most from outside the US, have barred Google from their websites. And in 2006, Google was told by a Belgian court to stop using content from French-language newspapers or pay $1 million a day fine.
Observers say that if Microsoft does indeed tempt newspapers with million-dollar sweeteners,
Google would have only one option †to throw cash for content.
