Netflix adds 19M subscribers in Q4, reaches 300M milestone
Shares of Netflix Inc. surged more than 14% on Tuesday after the streaming giant reported a strong fourth quarter, exceeding both revenue and earnings expectations. The company added a record 19 million subscribers, bringing its total paid memberships to over 300 million.
Netflix attributed this growth to a robust content slate, including the highly anticipated second season of "Squid Game," and the successful integration of live sporting events. The company also highlighted its expanding global reach, with an estimated 700 million viewers worldwide.
"We really have built the business on variety and quality across countries, across regions, across genres," said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
Key financial highlights for the quarter included:
• Earnings per share: $4.27, surpassing Wall Street estimates of $4.20.
• Revenue: $10.25 billion, exceeding analyst predictions of $10.11 billion.
• Paid memberships: 301.63 million, significantly higher than the expected 290.9 million.
Netflix also raised its full-year 2025 revenue guidance, reflecting improved business fundamentals and a strong fourth-quarter performance.
Looking ahead, the company plans to further enhance its product experience, expand its advertising business, and delve deeper into live events and gaming. A strong slate of upcoming releases, including new seasons of "Stranger Things" and "Wednesday," as well as highly anticipated films from renowned directors, is expected to drive continued growth.
