Nita Ambani & Mumbai Indians bat for "Education for All'

Nita Ambani, the wife of Reliance Industries Limited chief Mukesh Ambani, has deployed her educationist avatar to champion "Education for All', a campaign meant to ameliorate the lot of poor children. Ambanis own the IPL franchise of Mumbai Indians, and the campaign has benefitted from the presence of several cricket gods.

"One of India's big needs is for every underprivileged kid, especially the girl child, to know how to read and write," Nita Ambani, the principal of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, has been quoted as saying. "This is a cause that's very dear to me, and Sachin, Harbhajan and Zaheer were happy to endorse it in promos."

The promos that Nita Ambani mentions have been launched across national television channels and star the three cricketers. Moreover, the Mumbai Indian players have also autographed wristbands that bear the legend 'Education For All'. Proceeds from the sales of the bands will support five partner NGOs: Pratham, Ummeed, Akanksha, Teach For India and Nanhi Kali. Further, the value of sales will be matched by a contribution from the Mumbai Indians.

The bands, costing only Rs40, have been selling well.
