OYO Updates Check-In Policy: Unmarried Couples Now Restricted
OYO, the popular travel booking platform, has introduced a new check-in policy for its partner hotels, starting in Meerut, which discourages unmarried couples from booking stays. As per the revised guidelines, couples will now be required to present valid proof of their relationship at check-in, including for online bookings.
The policy change has been implemented with immediate effect in Meerut, and based on feedback, it may expand to other cities, sources familiar with the matter stated.
Pawas Sharma, Region Head for OYO North India, told PTI, “OYO is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While respecting individual freedoms, we also acknowledge our responsibility to collaborate with law enforcement and local communities. This policy will be reviewed periodically to assess its impact.”
Additionally, OYO has granted its partner hotels the discretion to decline couple bookings if they deem it necessary, aligning with local social norms and sensibilities.
The move is seen as part of OYO’s broader efforts to improve public perception and position itself as a safer choice for families and solo travelers.
