Poor pitch conditions criticized after one-sided T20 World Cup Semi-Final

The lackluster performance of the pitch at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final between Afghanistan and South Africa has drawn significant criticism from cricket personalities such as Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sanjay Manjrekar. Afghanistan's paltry total of 56 runs and South Africa's quick chase in just 8.5 overs underscored the one-sided nature of the match.

Sanjay Manjrekar voiced his disappointment, pointing out the unfair disadvantage to batters and the negative impact on broadcasters who invest heavily in television rights. Navjot Singh Sidhu shared similar concerns, highlighting the repercussions for players and financial backers who depend on viewership and advertiser interest. Disney Star, which invested $3 billion in ICC media rights, reportedly faced potential losses due to the lack of a competitive contest affecting their streaming business. This criticism emphasizes the need for well-prepared pitches to ensure an exciting match experience and the financial stability of those involved in broadcasting the event.
