Reliance Consumer launches Affordable Sports Drink 'Spinner'
Reliance Consumer Products (RCPL) has entered the sports hydration market with the launch of its latest offering, Spinner, an affordably priced sports drink. Priced at just Rs 10 for a 150 ml bottle, Spinner has been developed in collaboration with Sri Lankan cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan. The launch further strengthens Reliance’s growing presence in India’s beverage sector, which has already seen significant disruption following the revival of Campa Cola in 2023.
The introduction of Spinner comes at a time when sports drinks in India are largely dominated by premium-priced international brands. Comparatively, Pepsico’s Gatorade and Coca-Cola’s Powerade retail for around Rs 50 for a 500 ml bottle, while Decathlon’s Aptonia sports drink costs Rs 99 for a 400 ml bottle. By offering Spinner at a significantly lower price point, RCPL aims to make sports hydration accessible to a wider consumer base.
RCPL has been aggressively expanding its beverage lineup ahead of the summer season. Earlier this year, the company launched RasKik Gluco Energy at Rs 10, marking its entry into the energy drink segment. Since relaunching Campa Cola less than two years ago, RCPL has managed to capture a 10% market share in the sparkling beverage category in select states, intensifying competition within the sector. The aggressive pricing strategy has also impacted sales of juice brands like Dabur’s Real.
According to RCPL, Spinner is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s sports beverage industry, which the company estimates could grow into a $1 billion market within the next three years. The drink will be available in three flavors—lemon, orange, and nitro blue.
In a bid to strengthen its visibility, RCPL has secured partnerships with top Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, including Lucknow Super Giants, SunRisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians. These collaborations are expected to boost the brand’s nationwide reach during the upcoming IPL season.
“With Spinner, we’ve created an affordable and effective hydration solution that can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you’re a professional athlete or just someone looking to stay hydrated,” said Ketan Mody, COO of Reliance Consumer Products.
Muralitharan echoed this sentiment, calling Spinner a "game-changer" that will help Indians stay hydrated and active in their daily lives.
With its latest move, RCPL continues to challenge industry giants, signaling its intent to become a dominant player in India’s beverage market.
