‘Stree 2’ packs a punch at the box office, crosses Rs 200-cr mark
This Independence Day holiday weekend saw three major releases – Jio Studio and Maddock Film’s much-awaited horror-comedy sequel ‘Stree 2’, John Abraham and Nikkhil Advani’s action-packed ‘Vedaa’, and Mudassar Aziz’s ‘ Khel Khel Mein’.
The first part of ‘Stree’, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurrana created a box office record by earning more than Rs 181 crore. Soon after the makers dropped the trailer of the second part, there has been a strong buzz about the movie. Jyoti Deshpande, President of Media and Content Business at Jio Studios, had shared that they are confident of the film’s content and this is a reason why are not worried about the its box office clash with the other two films. Now it has been indeed proven, with ‘Stree 2’ turning out to be a major crowd puller at the box office and earning Rs 204 crore in India and Rs 283 crore worldwide. Normally most of the film’s see a dip in footfalls in cinema halls on Mondays, but since it is a Rakhi holiday, the film is expected to do well on this day as well.

While ‘Stree 2’ has definitely gone ahead in this box office race, the other two films released along with it have not managed to perform well. John Abraham, who is also one of the producers and the lead of ‘Vedaa’, which also stars Sharvari Wagh and Abhishek Banerjee, has collected Rs 13.25 crore approximately in four days. On the other hand, Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vani Kapoor, Ammy Virk and Pragya Jaiswal starrer comedy film ‘Khel Khel Mein’, too, could not do too well and garnered approximately Rs 14 crore. It has slightly better numbers than ‘Vedaa’.
As per trade experts, since there is no major release planned for the next 15 days, ‘Stree 2’ won’t slow down any time soon.
