Sushant Sreeram exits Prime Video India for CMO role at JioCinema

In a move shaking up the streaming industry, Sushant Sreeram, former Country Director of Prime Video India, is set to join JioCinema, the streaming service owned by Viacom18, as their Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). This news comes from reliable sources from the industry.
Sreeram's departure follows a successful climb within Prime Video. He initially joined in 2018 as Head of Customer and Brand Marketing, rising to Director of Marketing in 2020 and Director of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) Business in 2022. During his tenure as SVOD leader, he played a key role in subscriber acquisition, growth, and engagement across various segments.

Prior to Amazon, Sreeram held marketing leadership positions at Xiaomi India, HolidayIQ.com, eBay, Inkfruit.com, and Hindustan Unilever. Both Prime Video India and Viacom18 have declined to comment on the move.

This news comes amidst a period of change for Prime Video India. Nikhil Madhok was recently promoted to Head of India originals after Aparna Purohit's exit. Madhok, formerly with Disney+ Hotstar, brings experience in developing original content.

Sreeram himself hinted at a busy year for Prime Video India in 2024, with a focus on delivering a strong content pipeline. The platform launched its biggest slate yet in 2023, featuring 24 original shows. Globally, Amazon invests heavily in content, with estimates suggesting nearly $17 billion spent in 2022 across various media categories.

Sreeram's move to JioCinema suggests a growing competitive landscape for streaming services in India. Prime Video India continues to position itself as a comprehensive entertainment hub, offering a variety of services including streaming, OTT aggregation, and movie rentals.
