Tuhin Kanta Pandey assumes Chairmanship of SEBI

Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a seasoned Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1987 Odisha cadre, has officially taken charge as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in Mumbai today.

Pandey brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in pivotal positions within the Indian government. Prior to his appointment at SEBI, he held the esteemed positions of Union Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and Secretary of the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM). His extensive career also includes tenures as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises and Secretary of the Department of Personnel & Training (DOP&T).

Throughout his career, Pandey has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise across a diverse range of sectors. His experience spans roles in the Planning Commission (now Niti Aayog), the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Ministry of Commerce at the Union Government level. In his home state of Odisha, he served as the administrative head of key departments, including Finance, Health, General Administration, Commercial Taxes, and Transport. He also gained international experience during a stint at the Regional Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

With over three decades of experience, Pandey possesses a deep understanding of economy and finance, industrial development, and tax policy and administration. He has been instrumental in implementing numerous institutional innovations, new policies, and systems across the departments he has served.

Pandey holds a Master's Degree in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK. His academic background, coupled with his extensive administrative experience, positions him well to lead SEBI in its mission to regulate and develop the Indian securities market.
