Liverpool will travel to Lille Métropole for the first chapter of their round of 16 tie fully aware that the Ligue 1 club have lost just one of their last 16 European home games. Liverpool did not have the best of preparations for this game suffering a 1-0 defeat against Wigan in the English Premier League. A ninth Premiership defeat in 29 matches leaves them with an uphill struggle to qualify for the Champions League. Liverpool and Lille have never met in European football before, but the English club should take heart in the fact that they are unbeaten in their last five competitive matches in France, winning four and drawing just one.
