Warner Bros. Discovery's Max streaming service expands to Asia-Pacific

Warner Bros. Discovery is making a significant push into the Asia-Pacific region with its Max streaming service. The platform, which combines the content offerings of HBO and Discovery, has already launched in Japan through a partnership with U-Next and is set to enter Hong Kong and Taiwan by the end of the year. Australia can expect Max to arrive in the first half of 2025.

James Gibbons, president of Warner Bros. Discovery APAC, confirmed these plans at the APOS conference in Bali. While Max has been available in North America, Europe, and Latin America for some time, its rollout in the Asia-Pacific region has been slower due to licensing challenges and the need to establish partnerships for HBO content in local markets.

The expansion of Max into the Asia-Pacific region is a strategic move for Warner Bros. Discovery, as the streaming market in the region is experiencing rapid growth. With a vast array of content, including popular TV shows, movies, and documentaries, Max aims to attract a wide range of viewers and compete with other major streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.
