WBD and Eurosport Launch Enhanced 2024 US Open Coverage
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) has unveiled its comprehensive coverage plan for the 2024 US Open, the year's final Grand Slam, with a new, enhanced streaming service, Max, set to offer tennis fans across Europe live access to every match for the first time. In addition, Eurosport will broadcast the top matches on its TV channels in 45 European markets, holding exclusive rights in 41 countries, marking its 24th consecutive year of covering the tournament. Select matches will also be freely accessible in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, with Poland’s TVN broadcasting the women’s final on its free-to-air channel if national hero Iga Świątek reaches the final.
Eurosport's on-site coverage from New York's Flushing Meadows will feature insights and analysis from seven-time Grand Slam champions John McEnroe and Mats Wilander, alongside former Grand Slam doubles finalist Barbara Schett. In France, viewers will enjoy a localized studio show with seven-time Grand Slam champion Justine Henin and five-time doubles champion Nicolas Mahut, who joins the Eurosport team for the first time.
Scott Young, GSVP Content, Production, and Business Operations at WBD Sports Europe, highlighted that 2024 has been a record-breaking year for WBD’s tennis coverage, with significant viewership across major tournaments. He emphasized the success of the Max streaming service, which launched in Europe earlier this summer, and expressed excitement for its role in the US Open coverage, noting that it positions the tournament as a premium offering alongside a vast array of entertainment content.
Eurosport’s Max coverage will include live feeds from all 16 show courts, along with behind-the-scenes access to press conferences and the players' gym. In addition to live streaming and TV broadcasts, Eurosport’s digital platforms will provide extensive coverage, including free highlights, behind-the-scenes content, news, and long-form content on Eurosport.com and YouTube. The US Open singles draw is set to begin on August 26th.
Eurosport's coverage of the Australian Open earlier this year reached over 50 million people across all platforms, followed by record-breaking viewership for Roland-Garros, the highest in the network’s 35-year history.
