ASCI has clarified that it has asked its members or others not to issue any new advertisement without a self-declaration certificate (SDC) from June 18 onwards. Marketers and agency professionals have expressed concerns about the Supreme Court's mandate for a self-declaration certificate, which requires all advertisements to secure an SDC before being released to the public, irrespective of the medium.
OTT platforms to discuss regulations with MIB
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting met with top OTT platforms (Amazon, Disney and Netflix) and tech giants (Google, Meta) on June 14 to discuss proposed regulations for streaming services. Last year, the government introduced a draft law to bring OTT platforms under the purview of broadcasting regulations, similar to cable TV.
