Weekend Exclusive | For me fabric is not just a material but a feeling and memory: Designer, Vaishali Shadangule
Shadangule always loved doing something and experimenting with Indian fabrics. Adgully caught up with Vaishali Shadangule, a young and passionate and very innovative designer at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 where she showcased her fabulous collection made out of "Khand fabric' which is a traditional Maharashtrian handloom.
As told by her, she restored the beauty of this fabric onto the fashion catwalks and used the rich textures innovatively for beautiful women's wear. Also using Chanderi discreetly, she blended the two for a collection of long drapes, tunics, shirts, stole, jumpsuits, jackets, saris and kurtas.
She says, "This fabric is almost at the vanishing stage and so I wanted to showcase this collection with the motive to create awareness among the young generation about this fantastic fabric."
Shadangule has seen her grandmother wearing the blouses made out of Khand and got inspired. For her fabric is not just a material but is a feeling and a memory and believes that till the time you don't feel a fabric you cannot design with it. Also she has always been used basic colours like black, red and white but this was the first time that she used such beautiful colours.
Her journey has been tough. she has faced a lot of challenges in her life in terms of setting up her career. she says, "the journey has been amazing, tough but i have enjoyed and faced each and every challenge that came up."
She says, "Designers should work more and more with Indian textiles and weaves as India itself is a rich country in terms of textile and fabrics so we should make the most out of it."
For women who love tradition and heritage textiles, Vaishali Shadangule's collection "Khand" will create a stylish impact not only on the national but global fashion scene. The thoughts and creativity of Vaishali would lead her to go a long way and we at Adgully wish her success.
