Zee TV’s Jamai No. 1: A witty take on family bond

For over three decades, Zee TV has captivated audiences with compelling stories that resonate with real-life emotions and unforgettable characters. Continuing its legacy of innovative storytelling, the channel, in partnership with Studio LSD Productions, presents Jamai No. 1—a refreshing take on family dynamics with a hearty mix of humor, drama, and mischief.

In Indian culture, a jamai (son-in-law) is traditionally welcomed with respect and affection, gradually becoming an integral part of the family. But what happens when this jamai enters with his own playful agenda to shake things up? Jamai No. 1, which premiered on 9th December and airs every Monday to Friday at 10:30 PM on Zee TV, explores this unique premise with charm and wit.

Abhishek Malik stars as Neel Paranjape, a dynamic, unconventional jamai hailing from Nashik. Raised in a traditional middle-class family by his pujari father, Neel is a resourceful, witty problem-solver who never takes the straight path when a quirky jugaad can do the trick.

Opposite him is Simaran Kaur as Riddhi Chotwani, an ambitious CEO of her family’s winery who shields herself from vulnerability while navigating her mother Kanchan’s rigid control. Papia Sengupta plays Kanchan, the formidable matriarch of the Chotwani family, whose iron-fisted authority meets its match in Neel’s antics.

Mangesh Kulkarni, Chief Channel Officer, Zee TV, shares, “Jamai No. 1 enriches our content mix with its unique protagonist and lively tug-of-war between Neel and his mother-in-law. The storyline combines humor, drama, and a fresh perspective on relationships, making it a must-watch addition to our lineup.”

Abhishek Malik says, “Neel’s quirky charm and knack for mischief make him a delight to portray. His unconventional approach to life offers endless entertainment, and I’m thrilled to see audiences respond to his antics.”

Simaran Kaur adds, “Riddhi’s independence and complexity make her a fascinating character to play. The show offers a refreshing take on family bonds, and I can’t wait for audiences to explore Riddhi’s journey.”

Papia Sengupta remarks, “Kanchan’s layered personality adds depth and intrigue to the narrative. Her dynamic with Neel promises unexpected twists and heartfelt moments, making this show a true entertainer.”

The show’s launch event embodied its playful spirit, featuring jamais from the media fraternity who faced light-hearted challenges posed by Kanchan herself. The evening concluded with Abhishek Malik, as Neel, delivering a witty retort that encapsulated the essence of Jamai No. 1.

With its bold reimagining of the jamai trope, Jamai No. 1 promises to redefine traditions, challenge norms, and bring laughter, drama, and heartfelt moments to your screens. Watch as Neel bends rules and transforms lives with his unique charm—seedhi nahi, tedhi ungli se ghee nikaalega!
