4 int'l luxury-apparel brands seek India's recession-proof wardrobe!
Global luxury-apparel retailers, who were stripped of their profits by recession, have recognised that India is still dressed in hope, and are eager to tie up with Indian majors to tap the country's luxury-aspiring segment.
Indians who covet a la mode offerings will soon be able to include Playboy's unisex wear in their wardrobes. The brand is going to be launched by Shoppers Stop. Three other international brands will be available in India by the end of this fiscal, courtesy the S Kumars group.
Some top-end brands have already been introduced; a recent example is Arvind Brands' Izod, which is a Van Heusen label.
The market for luxury and premium brands in India is growing at about 30%, and is estimated to be worth up to Rs 7,000 crore.
Apart from apparel, it seems retailers are optimistic about cosmetics. For instance, Shoppers Stop will soon launch Baccarrose's luxury cosmetic brand, Guerlain.
