Bajaj gears up to sell 1mn Pulsar by FY '11

Confident of the prospects of its Pulsar bike, Bajaj Auto has set a sales target of 1 million units per annum by end-FY '11, and plans boost production to 90,000 units per month. The product boost will be achieved in the next six months.

The media has quoted the Bajaj Auto's CEO for 2-Wheelers, S Sridhar, as saying that Pulsar's sales had spiked from a low of 25,000 units per month last year to 45,000 units per month at present.

Given the evident positive trend, Sridhar said that the sales target of 1 million units was "achievable", even if ambitious.

The company sold 28,000 Pulsars per month (3,36,000 for the year) in FY '09, and hopes to sell 6 lakh this fiscal (FY '10); the targeted average monthly sale for FY '10 is 50,000 units.

According to Sridhar, Pulsar, which is a performance-category bike, has a 50% market share.
