Myopusradio: only Indian site to offer International Content with genre based channels

Myopusradio started with a single channel with an hour based format like FM radio for 24 hours. Then further launched 9 more channels each dedicated to a different genre. Currently, myopusradio has stations for ' Jazz, club music, country music, rock and roll, blues, retro, easy listening, O Carol and etc.

Adgully had the conversation with Carlton Braganza, Founder-Director, Trump It and Sharmon Ibrahim, Station Head, myopusradio, on myopusradio and more.

Carlton Braganza (CB) ' The journey has been very interesting. We started off with one single channel and within a few months expanded into 9, and from there we have been expanding to our current scenario of over 10 channels. There has been a huge learning experience in both the technical aspects as well as the creative. Learning our listeners' needs and habits has enabled us to cater to a wider variety of needs as well as fine tune our offering to cater more accurately to the evolving tastes.

CB ' The reasons for only online radio as opposed to FM radio were primarily two-fold:-

- An online Radio Station gives us Global presence as opposed to being limited to a particular geography. This fits in very well with the Opus core value of "Spreading the Music'.

Sharmon Ibrahim, Station Head, myopusradio Sharmon Ibrahim (SI) ' Our radio studio doubles up as the music studio as well  and is located in Bangalore.

- Many sites that operate out of the west are only available to IP addresses in the west and are therefore not relevant to an Indian audience who are as interested in the music on offer.

- In the future, we hope to bring about another revolution, prevalent in the early days of All India Radio but gone now, in the form of Spoken Radio content. Radio theatre/plays, Comedy channels, News and Interviews with relevant content, things that haven't been explored fully yet.

SI ' The most obvious difference is the genre wise breakup. You can listen to non-stop music ' "your kind of music' based on the channel you choose.

The "Surprise of Radio' is one of those biggest factors. It's the forum where you get to listen to music you might not have heard before, where the songs you like are mixed with new songs, artists you haven't even heard of and then you say "Hey, I like that song, who's it by?' and THEN you go and download it. At myopusradio.com, we provide you with that forum to listen to tons and tons of megabytes of music so you can then decide which of the songs you want to download or buy for your party or your Ipod.

SI ' We now have over 10 channels. Easy (Adult Contemporary Music) and Cassette Player (Retro) have the highest number of listeners.

SI ' We currently only play "English" music and music of bands of India. Hopefully in the near future this would change. As for regional music, there is no society that covers royalty payments for these record label/publishers and hence it becomes very difficult to tie up with individual labels, but that is also something that we will get into shortly.

SI ' While our International content is updated almost weekly as per our agreement with our royalty provider overseas, with regard to the Indian bands, the music is mostly sourced directly from the bands themselves. What the bands need is a platform for people to hear their music and that's what we provide. We also have a show where we feature and showcase an album by an Indian band every week as well as keep the listener up to date on gigs, competitions and a whole lot more on the independent Indian music scene.

AG ' "O Carol' was the last channel you have launched, how successful has it been? And, do you believe this channel will attract listeners in regular days?

AG ' myopusradio has completed a year did you achieve your 1st year target? If yes, what were your targets?

Stay tuned to Adgully on January 20, 2010 with the second phase of interview with Carlton Braganza, Founder-Director, Trump IT and Sharmon Ibrahim, Station Head, myopusradio, on myopusradio and their future plans.
