Prasar Bharati unveils new content sourcing policy

Prasar Bharati, India's public broadcaster, has introduced a comprehensive Content Sourcing Policy to streamline content acquisition across its various platforms, including linear channels, digital platforms, and OTT. This policy also outlines specific guidelines for Akashvani (All India Radio).

Key Provisions of the Policy

Content Acquisition: The policy details criteria for content inclusion, commission structures, license fees, and collaboration options.
OTT Platform:

Initial allotment for streaming partners on the OTT platform is set at three years.

Content categories include News & Current Affairs, General Entertainment Channels (GECs), and other genres.

Private TV channels will be initially categorized into News & Current Affairs (Hindi and English), regional and national GECs, and other genres.

Content Standards: All content must adhere to Prasar Bharati's Programme and Advertising Code.

Revenue Sharing:

Subscription or Transaction-backed Video on Demand (SVOD/TVOD): 65% to content provider, 35% to Prasar Bharati.

Advertising-based Video on Demand (AVOD): 65% to production house/rights owner, 35% to Prasar Bharati.

Platform Expansion: Prasar Bharati is considering onboarding Linear Satellite Channels and FAST Channels to its OTT platform for an initial period of one year.
